Today's message from contrary Snake and contrary Prairie Dog is that we may have been spending our energy in non-productive directions. Worry, stress and overwork sap your vitality and slowly grind you down until you have nothing left. Many a workaholic have found that they finally have to take that vacation they have been putting off because their health will no longer allow them to continue at their previous frantic pace. Prairie Dog tells me that worry and overwork will lead you to only one place - the hospital! You don't want to have to take a vacation because you'e had a heart attack!! Snake says that this tendency toward overwork is driven by fear - fear of not having enough, fear of not appearing productive in society, fear of developing or maintaining close relationships, fear of not being successful, etc. He tells me that this behavior must be released if you are to move forward in your life. Holding on to your frantic work schedule will trap you as surely as if you had chosen to spend your life lying on the couch doing nothing. He tells me that we must release these fears and allow ourselves to delegate to other people or even transition to a new, lower stress job in order to find the true joy of living. He says, "Allow yourself to transform into a new, more relaxed, healthier you. Learn to live your life, not your job!"

Oops! The worry bug may have bitten Prairie Dog and it has appeared in the contrary. Has the workaholic syndrome gotten the best of your inner knowledge and sensible outlook on life? Have you been tunneling in a nonproductive direction because you forgot to come up for air, look around, and get your bearings? Have you become addicted to the adrenaline created by scurrying to catch up? If you get sick from the chaos of over-activity you may have an unwelcome and enforced rest period at hand. Constant stress can steal your inspiration and ability to think on your feet.
Another contrary message of Prairie Dog is believing that compromise or retreat is a sign of weakness. Goodbye lie! You can get stuck in this one-way tunnel if you let your head get too big. If you cannot be still, be comfortable alone, and/or if you cannot delegate responsibility you need a reality check. Do not be afraid to take a break, to refill your resources, and to adopt a healthy, more relaxed viewpoint. Contrary Prairie Dog also teaches that pushing too hard can have dire consequences. The cemeteries are filled with people who once believed that they were indispensable.
